Position Overview:PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP)develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biologyexpertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI researchobjectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hubpurposed to enable the external cancer research community. A majorfocus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative with the goal todiscover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers.In addition, the CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology CharacterizationLaboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinicalefficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancertherapeutics and diagnostics, and the Antibody Characterization Lab(ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewableaffinity binding reagents for use in cancer related research. CRTPscientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCIinvestigators to provide research technologies and expertise. KEYROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES Scientist I - Structural Biology Thecandidate will join the structural biology group within the RASinitiative and will be responsible for the crystallization and thestructure determination of protein-small molecule andprotein-protein complexes by X-ray crystallography and cryoEM Thework will include construct design, biochemical and biophysicalcharacterization, crystallization, X-ray data collection, structuredetermination, and analysis The candidate will work closely withprotein scientists, biophysicists, and protein NMR scientists aspart of an integrated structural biology effort The candidatewill be a member of the drug discovery team, working closely withcomputational and medicinal chemists on structure-based drug designapproaches for small molecule agent optimization. The candidatewill be expected to be able to participate in experimental designand to conduct experiments in a priority-driven environmentindependently The candidate will be responsible for completingprojects independently and as part of a team and will beresponsible for timely updates of the project progress to theirsupervisor both informally and by formal report writing Workrequires the use of personal protective equipment and adherence tostrict safety protocols BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a PhDdegree in structural biology, protein biochemistry/biophysics,crystallography, or in a related discipline from an accreditedcollege or university, according to the Council for HigherEducation Accreditation Proven ability in all aspects of proteincrystallography from construct design through structuredetermination and analysis Experience in the crystallization ofprotein-small molecule and protein-protein complexes Expertise incommonly used structural biology software packages Proficiency inprotein biochemical and biophysical assays Excellentcommunication and witting skills Detail-oriented, highlyorganized and able to manage multiple tasks and deliver qualitydata Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS Experience in analyzing protein small-moleculeinteraction using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC),differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF), and NMR techniques Knowledge of mechanistic enzymology, and protein chemistry Knowledge of cryoEM workflow JOB HAZARDS This position is subjectto working with radioactive material and requires to become anapproved radiation worker Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) |Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace(DFW) #readytowork
